Bio & Mission
BEST OF FRIENDS was formed in 1975 and was for over a decade, THE top lounge trio in the Portland metro area. BOF appeared and repeated at all of the best restaurant, lounges, hotels and resorts 5-6 nights a week with only about 4 weeks off in that entire time period. Around the late 80s we all left on our own to pursue other and separate business interests.
We think this is a great time for us as there is really no competition for our unique style of music anywhere on the west coast as far as we can determine. There is also lot of evidence that the demand for this kind of music and group is greater than ever, even with the younger audiences many of whom have never heard this music, especially live.
The musical line-up is:
Gordy Michael piano/upright bass sim,
Larry 'pin' Pindar: electric & acoustic guitar
Neal Grandstaff drums.
All three are STRONG lead singers, great back-up singers and have a blend that is record-perfect. BEST OF FRIENDS brings back their own arrangements of classics by such great vocal groups like the Four Freshman, The Mills Bros, Lambert Hendricks & Ross, Singers Unlimited etc. etc. We can play & sing requests from almost any tunes in the Great American Songbook and Tin Pan Alley as well as all of the standard Jazz classics you're used to hearing. The group not only features great vocal power but each member is an accomplished player and soloist schooled not only in Jazz but in all forms of popular music. Our Drummer Neal Grandstaff is the head of the Jazz improv dept. at Oregon State University and is also a first call guitar player as is Gordy! It is a rare thing when this band is stumped on a request that we regularly solicit from the audience as we engage them at every possible turn. We also either default to coat & tie dress or black tie unless requested otherwise to show respect for the music and our audiences. We cater to the audience and we do try to show them a good time and have fun ourselves. We describe our music as Jazzertainment and of course we are in turn Jazzertainers!

You can book the band direct or through any of the major established agencies in the Metro area. They all know us. I can be reached at 503-319-2029. I hope you like the group and that we'll be hearing back from you.
